A sailing ship, an almshouse and a power station stand within a few minutes of the same river path. Greenwich’s waterfront joins long-distance trade with the lives of retired seamen, visitors and the people who kept London moving.
Start beside Cutty Sark, enter the naval courts and continue east to Trinity Hospital and the generating station. Maze Hill leads past Vanbrugh’s own house into the park; the return brings the Queen’s House, museum, market and St Alfege together.
The Royal Observatory closed for refurbishment on 2 November 2026. Its stop is a view from the public park, with no visit inside the enclosure. The other interiors are optional additions to the outdoor walk.
In winter, aim to reach Maze Hill Gate by 15:00 and leave the park before dusk. Check the day’s gate notices: the FAQ says dusk, while the park’s main page and 2026 timetable list 18:00 in November.
